Will the Real Working Lady Please Stand Up !
She got up late as usual. The hectic project deadlines had made her stay late in office yet again. She rushed to get ready but her head was still buzzing due to constant late nights & extended work hours. All the hardwork was for an important presentation to do today, and she can not just let it all go in vain due to ringing in her head. May be a little breakfast and soothing coffee would help in clearing her mind.
She went towards kitchen and realized that her apartment had not been cleaned in more than a week. She missed her maid.
She thought, "Only if Mom was here, maid would not dare to take such leaves. How perfect Mother was. She could easily manage her job and home. Never in her life had she or anyone at home gone out without food or heard her complain about hectic schedule or work pressure, she was always available for anyone at anytime. How could she do all this?? Hats off to Mother !"
She put a pair of bread in toaster and looked outside on the street.
There were 2 small girls on the pavement. The younger one was crying out of hunger and older one was consoling her. She gave her a finger dipped in water to suck on. That pacified her for a little while. She marvelled how circumstances can make a 3 year old child understand the needs of a 1 year old child. May be she should go out and give them some milk. Just then her phone buzzed. It was a Happy Women's Day message advocating how liberal women are now, that they are taking up more & more challenging positions & even earning as much as men do. She smiled, quickly replied a thanks and forwarded the message to bunch of other girls.
Her toast was still not done, so she tried locating the mother of those kids. There were a bunch of females working in a construction building. They were holding bricks on their head and delivering to men's unit at 1st floor. She wondered at the strength of these women. They were working shoulder to shoulder with men and none asking for special privilege. She had also seen them preparing food early morning as well as late nights. She wondered how, when & where do these ladies take bath? How can they survive just on pavement with no permanent roof and always helping their husbands in their physical work, without demanding?
Just then, one of the lady rushed back to those kids, held younger one and started feeding her and gave a small pack of biscuit to other one. She did not care that she was exposed to passer-by and there were glances coming her way. Only thing that mattered was feeding her kids. Wow !! Hats off to her !!
Her phone buzzed yet again. She thought it would be another Women's Day message that's circulated around. The message was from Boss. The meeting will be done by her male colleague who also happens to be best friend of Boss every Friday night for Booze Party.
Just then the Toaster popped and the breads were completely black.
Her phone buzzed again with another Happy Women's Day message telling how special Women are !
